Age may be just a number, but for two Jacksonville women celebrating their 75th and 85th birthdays, the milestones represent decades of faith, family, professional accomplishments and community services.

Florence Patterson recently celebrated her 75th birthday with a festive “Denim & Diamonds” party at the Crowne Plaza on Airport Road. Hosted by her children, nieces and nephews, the “Get Up and Dance” celebration featured DJ Charles Scantling spinning old-school favorites and gospel selections as guests filled the dance floor. A Jacksonville native, and 1970 graduate of Stanton Vocational High School, Patterson earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Edward Waters University. The mother of two retired after 35 years with the City of Jacksonville, when she served as a center supervisor.

An active member of Northside Church of Christ, Patterson continues to coordinate senior activities, educational programs and fellowship opportunities that promote engagement and active aging.

Meanwhile, Elder Bettye Pittman celebrated 85th birthday, marking a lifetime devoted to education, ministry and family.

Pittman moved to Jacksonville in 1960 after marrying in Tifton, Georgia. She graduated from Edward Waters College in 1969 and earned

advanced degrees from Atlanta University and Luther Rice Seminary.

The mother of four children—Valerie, Frederick, Christopher and Synethra — spent 30 years teaching biology, anatomy and physiology in Duval County Public Schools senior high schools. She also served five years as a middle school guidance counselor and taught at Florida Community College at Jacksonville.

Beyond the classroom, Pittman is the founder and pastor of St. Luke Holiness Church, 1320 Bridier Street. Her ministry has extended across several states through revivals and outreach.

For Patterson and Pittman, the milestone celebrations were more than birthday parties. They reflected lives enriched by service, strengthened by faith and surrounded by generations of family and friends.

At 75 and 85 , both women continue to demonstrate that a life well lived is measured not simply by years, but by the lives touched along the way.

Shown is Elder Bettye Pittman marking her 85th birthday!
