<\/p>\nJACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 Eric Roberson, a Jacksonville circuit court judge who was facing formal misconduct charges over comments he allegedly made from the bench, has retired.<\/p>\n
Action News Jax learned Tuesday that Roberson has left the bench effective October 1. <\/p>\n

Roberson later filed an answer to those charges in July.<\/p>\n \u2018God bless you for not beating the tar out of her\u2019<\/p>\n The allegations centered on Roberson\u2019s conduct and comments during multiple court proceedings.<\/p>\n In one instance, the commission alleged Roberson referred to a woman as an \u201centitled little snot\u201d and told her father, \u201cGod bless you for not beating the tar out of her.\u201d<\/p>\n Judge Eric Roberson complaint Judge Eric Roberson complaint <\/p>\n In another case, Roberson allegedly told a respondent, \u201cThere\u2019s something seriously off with you.\u201d<\/p>\n [DOWNLOAD: Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks<\/a>]<\/p>\n Judge\u2019s defense<\/p>\n An attorney for Roberson previously said the judge \u201cacknowledges and is remorseful\u201d for conduct described by the commission. <\/p>\n In a July response to the charges, his attorney argued Roberson had complied with 10 of the 11 judicial canons cited by the JQC.<\/p>\n How we got here<\/p>\n Roberson was appointed to the Fourth Judicial Circuit bench by then-Gov. Rick Scott in 2017.<\/p>\n His retirement is not the first time a Fourth Judicial Circuit judge has left the bench while facing scrutiny from the JQC.<\/p>\n [SIGN UP: Action News Jax Daily Headlines Newsletter<\/a>] <\/p>\n In 2017, Judge Mark Hulsey III, who served Duval, Clay, and Nassau counties, resigned while facing allegations<\/a> that he made racist and sexist remarks and behaved inappropriately toward court staff. <\/p>\n Hulsey denied the allegations.
