Clearwater-based Hammer Haag Steel Inc. is in the process of expanding. The company is preparing to build an approximately 227,700 square-foot industrial facility in Largo.

For Hammer Haag president Constantin Haag, the decision to reinvest in the region was an easy one.

“We started the company here,” he explained. “We’ve got an amazing talent pool of employees that work here. They live here in Pinellas County and I think moving anywhere else would just disrupt that.”

Founded in 2011, Hammer Haag Steel is a family-owned steel fabrication and manufacturing business.

The facility, at 2063 20th Avenue SE, will include an approximately 176,000-square-foot manufacturing area, an approximately 29,000-square-foot warehouse and about 22,000 square feet of office space. Haag and his team acquired the property in May 2025.

Hammer Haag Steel is actively working on demolition efforts. Haag hopes to have a site plan completed in the coming weeks as well. The goal is to begin operations in the new building in the summer of 2027.

“We’re hoping to employ a couple hundred more people at this facility as well in order to be able to meet the demands of our customers,” Haag added. “I think manufacturing in the U.S. is coming back pretty strong right now and I don’t think it’s going anywhere for a long time.”

He explained that the company plans to invest in American manufacturing “for the long haul.”

The manufacturing area will support the organization’s heavy steel fabrication work. It will allow the company to pursue more complicated projects in-house.

The warehouse space will be used for Hammer Haag’s machining efforts. This will help increase the size and weight of the company’s products. The office area will be utilized by the business’s administrative, engineering, operations and support staff.

“We move roughly anywhere between 800 to 1,200 tons of steel a month,” Haag explained. “To be able to expand on our current operation, we need to have a better flow line than we have right now.”

Hammer Haag leaders estimate that the expansion would approximately triple the company’s current capacity. The team worked with Pinellas County Economic Development to select the real estate.

“Matching Hammer Haag Steel with properties that fit their specific industrial needs was critical in their ability to grow and stay in the region,” said Pinellas County Economic Development director Dr. Cynthia Johnson in a statement prepared for the Catalyst. “By using our market expertise to help them pinpoint the right spot, we are proud to keep a fantastic employer right here in our community, ensuring this expansion translates directly into good jobs and long-term economic growth for Pinellas County.”

The organization’s existing Clearwater facility will remain operational. However, it will have a smaller crew.

“I think it’s going to be a great opportunity to not only have this manufacturing space,” Hagg said, “but also help generate the next generation of welders and fitters and American manufacturers.”
