CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK) \u2014 The Cape Coral City Council voted to delay the North 3 Utilities Expansion Project, but some Cape Coral neighbors still want questions answered about what will happen next.<\/p>\n
WINK News spoke with several Cape Coral property owners who are pleased with the council’s decision to go back to the drawing board on the project. The question still remains: who will be responsible for the $3 million in redesign costs?<\/p>\n
“I still want to know how we got from non-assessed to assessed,” Michelle Daniel said. “There was either a very large mistake that happened or something a little bit more deliberate, and I think that we need to know. We just need to know, and we’re not getting our questions answered.”<\/p>\n
Daniel said she is afraid that the delay for a redesign of North 3 UEP will raise the costs on taxpayers due to the city’s lack of communication on the project. She said transparency is crucial moving forward.<\/p>\n
“We need to know that the numbers that we’re being given are accurate,” Daniel said. “We need transparency, and I think that people in UEP three would be happy to pay their assessments if we knew what the bottom dollar was, where they get the figures from.”<\/p>\n
The North 3 Utilities Expansion Project is intended to bring city water, wastewater and irrigation services to areas in northwest Cape Coral. Alternative Five would have added multi-purpose pathways on either side of the roadway.<\/p>\n
For Tim Daly, who owns two homes in the area, that nearly $6,000 additional price tag would have been costly. He said the total cost would have been significant.<\/p>\n
“So I would anticipate that would be somewhere between 40 and $50,000, also,” Daly said. “So all in, we’re looking at six figures, 100 grand, to implement this. A lot of money, an awful lot of money.”<\/p>\n
With the extension, these Cape Coral homeowners said they hope the council has better communication in the coming months. Jack Torbeck said he wants regular updates on the project’s costs.<\/p>\n
“So I would like to see them keep us informed on a pretty regular basis as to how much cost is going to be involved in UEP three North, and I would like to make sure that’s equitable on both sides of Burnt Store Road,” Torbeck said.<\/p>\n
The neighbors said they hope the redesign of the project is done sooner, rather than having to wait an additional year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"CAPE CORAL, Fla.
