We’re excited that customers can now start making BlueFirst part of their travel plans,” said Joanna Geraghty, chief executive officer, JetBlue. “This is just the beginning. As we bring BlueFirst to more aircraft, customers will see it become available on routes and in markets across our network, giving them even more opportunities to choose an elevated JetBlue experience.”

On December 8, BlueFirst seats will be available on the following routes, and are now bookable via their website.

Boston (BOS) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL)

New York (LGA) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL)

New York (JFK) and Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR)

BlueFirst seats now have their own tab, and as detailed previously, will have its own drop down with fare classes broken down into Base, Standard and Flex. The initially advertised fares show the Base plan, so keep this in mind if you plan to book a standard or flex fare.

The Base fare doesn’t include seat selection during booking (auto assigned at check in), and only allows for one checked bag, with change and cancellation fees being applied if you have to make changes to your ticket.

The Standard fare is your usual run-of-the-mill option with free seat selection on booking, two checked bags included, with change and cancellation fees being waived. Flex offers the best option for those who have shifting schedules, allowing for full refunds back to the original form of payment, as well as free same day switches or standby changes.

Beyond the first three routes being introduced on December 8, BlueFirst will expand to the following routes in the next few months.

RouteStarting monthFort Lauderdale (FLL)Boston (BOS)DecemberFort Lauderdale (FLL)Buffalo (BUF)DecemberFort Lauderdale (FLL)Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR)DecemberFort Lauderdale (FLL)New York (LGA)DecemberFort Lauderdale (FLL)Washington, D.C. JetBlue continues its partnership with Tuft & Needle, adding T&N Flex foam padding to the fabric and leather combo seating.

The seats themselves are mostly gray fabric, with black headrests and dark blue trim on the sides. There are also two arcs stitched in light blue on the headrests denoting the BlueFirst branding. The seatbacks feature 13.3-inch entertainment screens with Bluetooth connectivity, as well as USB-A, USB-C and AC 110v power outlets, along with free Wi-Fi access.

On flights 899 miles or more, customers will be entitled to what they call a “FirstFare” meal served in a bento-style box, containing an entrée, side and dessert. Meal options will also vary depending on the time of day they are being served. The above mileage translates to flight times around two and a half to three hours long depending on the direction of flight.

Travelers will also be able to choose from a selection of alcoholic drinks, and can even build their own custom cocktails via the seatback IFE screens. The beverage menu will include sommelier-selected wines, specialty coffee and premium teas. Both meal and drink orders can be placed in advance via the IFE. Besides that, all BlueFirst customers will have access to a premium line up to snacks. All overnight travelers will be given a blanket and snooze kit.

With bookings now available, we also have an official preview of the update seat layout, and as previously rumored, the cabins will maintain their existing seat count.

So far, I’ve only found A320-operated flights, and based on the map, there are 3 rows of 2-2 BlueFirst seats, while the remaining 25 rows of economy seats being configured in the usual 3-3 for a total of 162 seats. Compared to the “32M” config which also has 162 seats split across 27 rows, both economy and EvenMore passengers will see a reduction in seat pitch, with regular economy going from 32 to 30. EvenMore customers will also lose some leg room, but the exact figure may vary depending on the row.

While it’s unfortunate that one of JetBlue’s economy perks is going away, it no longer seems to be an advantage as the travel market in general is moving towards more premium options. As JetBlue has struggled to turn a yearly profit since the start of the pandemic, they are hoping that BlueFirst can be one part of the puzzle to bring them back into the black.

Sign up for the free Gate Checked newsletter here sent three times weekly.

Add as preferred source on Google

Follow on WhatsApp

Link copied to clipboard!
