did not survive<\/a>.<\/p>\n\u201cOnce I got on the ground, I found out we had one patient deceased on scene, and the other was, we call it a Level 1 Trauma,\u201d said Gans.<\/p>\n
Rescue came from the air and water to reach those injured. BSO Marine Patrol, Aviation Unit and other crews collaborated to locate the crash site and begin life-saving efforts.<\/p>\n
\u201cOnce I was lowered onto our airboat, I was able to jump over to another airboat where the patient was at,\u201d said Gans.<\/p>\n
First responders hoisted the injured survivor into a helicopter and rushed him to an area hospital. Deputies said he is expected to make a full recovery.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had to do a \u2018hot seat,\u2019 it\u2019s called. So, I wrapped him up, I did some patient care on the ground,\u201d Gans said. \u201cAnd then, once I was ready for extraction, I was just waving to the aircraft, \u2018I\u2019m ready for extraction,\u2019 and we both were lifted up to the aircraft, and then once we were in the aircraft, we made our way to Memorial Regional Hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n
When they aren\u2019t answering calls, air rescue crews train for hoist operations one day each week. <\/p>\n
\u201cAnd we hold pretty much here, right?\u201d Gans said in a demonstration. \u201cAnd we\u2019re hooked up. And then the hoist operator would be sitting here.\u201d<\/p>\n
The cause of this accident remains under investigation by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.<\/p>\n
BSO said this rescue operation shows how mutual training and partnership between the departments provide value and life-saving assistance to Broward residents.<\/p>\n
