The vertical louvers covering the windows will be replaced with a perforated metal screen system designed to reflect the diaspora of Holocaust survivors.

The addition will be home to the center’s new core exhibit, titled “Hope & Humanity,” which documents the stories of 10 Holocaust survivors who settled in Central Florida.

Architect Maurizio Maso from HuntonBrady told the ARB the design intent was for the two buildings to be compatible, but not identical.

The design team made several revisions to address concerns raised during the ARB’s courtesy review in April, including the lack of transparency. ARB Director Richard Forbes wrote that the team increased the transparency on the ground floor and lobby by rearranging the security and locker areas and widening the entry vestibule. “The transparency in the upper floors of the existing building is affected by the proposed metal screen system; however, the final drawings show much more transparent metal panels than shown at the Courtesy Review,” he added.

Have a tip about Central Florida development?
