CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK) \u2014 Cape Coral police investigators arrested two registered sex offenders from a halfway house in northwest Cape Coral for allegedly having child sexual abuse material on their phones.<\/p>\n
The halfway house is on the 1700 block of Northwest First Place. Dylan Hornspy, who lives nearby the halfway house, said the home has been a problem for the community.<\/p>\n

“It was nice to see that something was being done, but in the end, we just don’t want them in the neighborhood at all,” Hornspy said. “We don’t want them around our kids. We don’t want them here.”<\/p>\n
On Oct. 12, William Plumley and Enrico Mendes Jr. were arrested and charged with violating their probation by possessing unauthorized cell phone devices capable of connecting to the internet. Investigators were told by another resident in the halfway house that Plumley was viewing child sexual abuse material on his phone.<\/p>\n
For Hornspy, who has a son in the area, hearing the charges against the men brought concern.<\/p>\n
“I wasn’t shocked to be honest,” Hornspy said. “We know there’s sex offenders living there we’ve been wanting to get rid of them for God knows how long we got kids in the neighborhood.”<\/p>\n
A halfway house is a temporary residence to help inmates transition back into regular society after a prison, jail or mental health facility. For Hornspy, it continues to cause problems next door.<\/p>\n
Hornspy said he even had to run an inmate who lived in the halfway house off of his property.<\/p>\n
“He ended up actually just walking into our house unprompted, where my stepmom actually greeted him at the door and told him to get that, get out, with more explicit language,” Hornspy said. “And my dad and I ended up chasing him out with guns.”<\/p>\n
Cape Coral police Special Victims Unit executed a search on the property and seized multiple electronic devices, including a smashed phone that was hidden in a bathroom.
