ORLANDO, Fla. \u2014\u00a0United States Air Force veteran Jeremy Lam loves to volunteer. He spends a lot of his time helping people at several organizations. He is a recipient of veterans’ services but says he believes in giving back by volunteering to help veterans just like himself.<\/p>\n
One place where he serves is near and dear to his heart \u2014 the Veterans Affairs nursing home in Baldwin Park.<\/p>\n

Lam worked with administration at the nursing home to start activities like bingo games to help get fellow veterans involved in activities\u00a0<\/p>\n
Every fourth Monday of the month, Lam volunteers his time there.<\/p>\n
\u201cI really like it over here. The veterans are very nice, and they are kindhearted souls,\u201d Lam says.<\/p>\n
Kindhearted souls that Lam truly enjoys. He also volunteers at several other places, including the DAV, or the Disabled American Veterans, chapter in Orlando.<\/p>\n
He said at the nursing home, he feels compelled to pour into the healthcare system that once helped him.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have a deep appreciation for, not just veterans, but patients in themselves,” Lam says. “I used to be a patient at the VA hospital, and I see what great, incredible service they do, and I want to give that same service to them as a volunteer.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Katiria Perry Huff, a nursing home administrator in Baldwin Park, says, \u201cHe is instrumental when it comes to our activities. He helps out. He always goes above and beyond. He is dependable. Great personality.\u201d<\/p>\n
She says having Lam as a relentless volunteer is a joy.<\/p>\n
He helps provide games for patients to enjoy.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are a 112-bed facility. We do shorter therapy and long-term care for veterans,” Huff says. “Most of our residents that live here, they are here permanently.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Residents are often greeted with Lam\u2019s great attitude.
