{"id":429481,"date":"2026-10-16T13:30:48","date_gmt":"2026-10-16T13:30:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/429481\/"},"modified":"2026-10-16T13:30:48","modified_gmt":"2026-10-16T13:30:48","slug":"tampa-city-council-approves-bonds-for-rays-stadium-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/429481\/","title":{"rendered":"Tampa city council approves bonds for Rays stadium funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TAMPA, Fla. \u2014 Tampa city leaders are moving forward with plans to take out a loan to help fund the Rays new ballpark.<\/p>\n<p>City council voted yesterday to ask for a judge\u2019s approval to borrow $80 million.<\/p>\n<p>The vote is part of the bond validation, which allows the city to issue bonds to pay for its $80 million portion toward the $2.3-billion stadium project.<\/p>\n<p>The move is largely procedural. According to city attorney Scott Steady, the city has a legal obligation to fund the $80 after already <a href=\"https:\/\/baynews9.com\/fl\/tampa\/news\/2026\/08\/27\/with-a-yes-vote-from-the-city--stadium-fate-now-moves-to-county-commissioners\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">approving the stadium agreement terms with the Rays<\/a>. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The first vote was a tie with three for and three against.<\/p>\n<p>Councilman Bill Carlson was out sick. He later joined the meeting virtually to cast the deciding vote.
