{"id":429988,"date":"2026-10-16T23:44:34","date_gmt":"2026-10-16T23:44:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/429988\/"},"modified":"2026-10-16T23:44:34","modified_gmt":"2026-10-16T23:44:34","slug":"elijah-manley-booked-in-broward-jail-on-written-threats-charges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/429988\/","title":{"rendered":"Elijah Manley booked in Broward jail on written threats charges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Elijah Manley, an unsuccessful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sun-sentinel.com\/2026\/07\/09\/questionnaire-elijah-manley-candidate-for-u-s-house-district-20\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Democratic candidate<\/a> for U.S. House District 20 in the August primary, was booked into the Broward County jail Friday on two counts of written or electronic threats to kill or injure.<\/p>\n<p>The 27-year-old Fort Lauderdale native\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sun-sentinel.com\/2026\/10\/16\/former-congressional-candidate-elijah-manley-to-surrender-to-bso-over-violent-social-media-post\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told WLRN<\/a> on Thursday he expected to face charges related to a social media post he authored where he wrote, in support of Democratic Senate candidate Angie Nixon, that if people do not vote for her: \u201c\u2026 I promise you I\u2019m going to cut your f\u2014\u2014 head off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nixon, a member of the Florida House of Representatives, is running against Republican U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody. Four recent public opinion polls show <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sun-sentinel.com\/2026\/10\/10\/florida-polls-show-republicans-lead-democrats-in-governor-and-senate-races-but-contests-remain-close\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Moody is ahead<\/a> of Nixon.<\/p>\n<p>Manley called the situation a \u201cserious First Amendment issue\u201d and indicated that he may pursue legal action, WLRN reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe President of the United States says worse,\u201d he told WLRN.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sun-sentinel.com\/2026\/10\/16\/former-congressional-candidate-elijah-manley-to-surrender-to-bso-over-violent-social-media-post\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Former congressional candidate Elijah Manley to surrender to BSO over violent social media post<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Court records with further information about the investigation that led to the charges were not available Friday evening.\u00a0The charges are second-degree felonies.<\/p>\n<p>Manley\u2019s defense attorney did not immediately respond to an email and a message left at his office seeking comment after business hours Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Manley is a civic activist and frequent unsuccessful Democratic candidate who has previously run for Broward School Board and the state Legislature, as well as Congress.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Manley described himself <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sun-sentinel.com\/2026\/06\/10\/attempt-to-unify-around-one-black-candidate-against-wasserman-schultz-in-floridas-20th-district-falters\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">to the Sun Sentinel<\/a> as \u201cthe best candidate to take on Debbie Wasserman Schultz in this race.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He has worked as a substitute teacher in Broward County Public Schools, according to a Sun Sentinel questionnaire he completed ahead of the August primary.
