Central Florida congressmen Maxwell Frost and Darren Soto said their offices received suspicious packages in the mail Friday, prompting the evacuation of Frost\u2019s office in downtown Orlando.<\/p>\n

Frost, D-Orlando, released a statement<\/a> on X around 3 p.m. Friday announcing the evacuation of his Magnolia Street office due to a suspicious package and said that the Orlando Police Department and U.S. Capitol Police had been notified.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy staff and I are safe. We are taking this situation seriously and cooperating fully with law enforcement as they assess the situation,\u201d Frost wrote.<\/p>\n

OPD didn\u2019t immediately respond to a request for comment Friday evening and the Orlando Fire Department referred questions to federal authorities that have assumed control of the investigation, although they didn\u2019t identify which agency they were referring to.<\/p>\n

Soto, D-Kissimmee, posted on X<\/a> around 4 p.m. that law enforcement had intercepted an envelope containing a suspicious substance that had been sent to his Kissimmee office after Frost had warned him to monitor his mail. He said no staff were hurt.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are working with federal, state, and local law enforcement to support an investigation,\u201d Soto wrote. \u201cPolitical violence has no place in our democracy, and we hope those who perpetrated this crime are brought to justice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Frost, in his statement, said the package sent to his office matched packages recently sent to other lawmakers across the country.<\/p>\n

The Washington Post reported Thursday<\/a> that federal authorities were investigating mail containing \u201csuspicious substances\u201d sent to the Capitol Hill offices of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-New York; Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Connecticut; and Sen. Alex Padilla, D-California.<\/p>\n

The Post also reported that the FBI said several other pieces of suspicious mail were sent to state officials this week.
