{"id":43021,"date":"2025-11-11T23:04:06","date_gmt":"2025-11-11T23:04:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/43021\/"},"modified":"2025-11-11T23:04:06","modified_gmt":"2025-11-11T23:04:06","slug":"hialeah-mayor-bars-staff-from-talking-to-mayor-elect","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/43021\/","title":{"rendered":"Hialeah mayor bars staff from talking to mayor-elect"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">HIALEAH, Fla.  \u2014 The current mayor of Hialeah <a href=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/local\/2025\/11\/05\/newly-elected-hialeah-mayor-ready-to-start-working-for-his-city\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/local\/2025\/11\/05\/newly-elected-hialeah-mayor-ready-to-start-working-for-his-city\/\">and the man who will replace her<\/a> are currently at odds over the transition of power.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Interim Hialeah Mayor Jackie Garcia-Roves sent an email to all city staff on Monday, reinforcing her authority over the next two months until the newly elected mayor, Bryan Calvo, is sworn in.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">That will happen on Jan. 12. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Garcia-Roves said, effective immediately, that no one can communicate with Calvo or his team directly without her written approval, and that all requests and meetings must be organized by her office alone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The order is mandatory, according to the email, and any deviation is considered \u201ca violation of administrative procedure\u201d and will be \u201caddressed accordingly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Garcia-Roves says this is to limit confusion and keep her office informed properly. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThis way nothing gets lost in transition,\u201d she said. \u201cWe know who\u2019s meeting with who, and we\u2019re knowing what\u2019s provided, because if not then it\u2019s just going to be a mess.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Calvo disagrees and says this clearly hinders his ability to hit the ground running in January.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cObviously, I need a lot of information from the city in order to be able to form my government,\u201d said Calvo. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Calvo said he spoke with Garcia-Roves after his dominant victory in the mayoral election, making requests to meet with all 19 department heads as well as data and documents on the current city staff. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWell, I asked for a list of all city employees, salaries and how much these employees are making,\u201d he said. \u201cData I\u2019m going to need essentially to start forming this government and make those decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Garcia-Roves said she\u2019s working on those requests, but Calvo said the email came out after he followed up on his requests and now he\u2019s concerned. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cAt the end of the day, we\u2019re neighbors, right?\u201d he said. \u201cAnd the mayor and I and all the other residents of Hialeah, we want the best for our city, and I think there\u2019s a constructive way to get there.
