Below are 20 places we’d send a friend to, sorted by what you need, with the dish to order at each.

National Pasta Day is October 17, but this list holds up any night of the week.

By neighborhood

Wynwood: PASTA, Otto & Pepe, DōmaDesign District: Mother Wolf, Torno Subito, Contessa, SofiaCoral Gables: Luca Osteria, Zucca, Beauty & The ButcherMiami Beach: Macchialina, Pane e Vino, Cafe Prima PastaBrickell: Felice, SeiaEverywhere else: Boia De (Buena Vista), Mano Libera (South Miami), Battubelin (Upper East Side), Casadonna (Edgewater), Petralunga (North Bay Village)Watch it get made

Three kitchens put the pasta-making in front of you: a counter, a window and an open pasta bar.

PASTA, Wynwood

Fresh pasta from a Lima chef couple, rolled each morning in a window-facing kitchen. Order the pici cacio e pepe or the pappardelle with braised beef cheek ragù. Reservations are on Resy.

Otto & Pepe, Wynwood

Miami’s first pasta bar, with an open pasta counter, a wine cellar and a garden patio. Order the orecchiette alla Norma or the cacio e pepe, and pair it with a natural wine from the enoteca. Chef Viviana Varese, who ran Michelin-starred restaurants in Milan and Sicily, wrote the menu.

Pane e Vino, Miami Beach

A tiny South Beach room where the pasta gets made in the front window. Order the spaghetti al pomodoro or the pappardelle with lamb ragù. It sits at 1450 Washington Avenue and seats few, so reserve.

Red sauce and neighborhood classics

Book these three when you want a red-sauce menu and a room that feels like a neighborhood.

Macchialina, Miami Beach

A South Beach staple for more than a decade, with housemade pasta and an almost all-Italian wine list. Order the cavatelli with baby meatballs, porchetta and pecorino. It sits at 820 Alton Road, on the residential side of South Beach.

Cafe Prima Pasta, North Beach

A family-run red-sauce room on 71st Street, open since 1993. Order the fiocchi rapera: pear and cheese pasta in a cream truffle sauce with toasted prosciutto. The eggplant parmigiana and the meatballs with ricotta are the other dishes it’s known for.

 01Cafe Prima Pasta

North Beach · Restaurant · $$

date-night

Family-owned Italian staple in Miami Beach, serving classic hand-rolled pasta and traditional recipes in an intimate, long-standing neighborhood setting.

Battubelin, Upper East Side

An Upper East Side Italian with a wood-fired oven and fresh pasta you pair with your choice of sauce. Order the gnocchi, which reviewers single out, or the risotto. It’s at 749 NE 79th Street, with a covered patio.

Date night

These seven suit a booked table and a slower dinner.

Boia De, Buena Vista

A Michelin-starred room with about 27 seats behind a neon exclamation point in a Buena Vista strip mall. Order the tagliolini nero with king crab and vin jaune, served cold, if it’s on the menu. Tables book quickly.

Mano Libera, South Miami

Neapolitan cooking in South Miami, with all pasta made by hand daily by Naples-born chef Marco Giugliano. Order the gnocchi in Genovese reduction or the truffle pasta. Michelin lists it as a recommended restaurant, and portions run small, so plan on a second course.

Luca Osteria, Coral Gables

Giorgio Rapicavoli’s osteria on Giralda Plaza, with housemade pasta and a Miami edge. Order the tagliatelle al limone with Parmigiano and a whole lemon. Ask for a table outside on the plaza.

Felice, Brickell

A Tuscan menu in Brickell built on homemade egg pasta and dried pasta from Italian makers. Order the spaghettino Felicetti alla diavola, which gets its heat from crusco pepper and peperoncino, or the mafalde al limone. Founder Jacopo Giustiniani grew up in a winemaking family, so give the Italian wine list real attention.

Zucca, Coral Gables

Classic regional Italian inside the Hotel St. Michel, in one of the quieter dining rooms in the city. Order the paccheri with lobster and cherry tomatoes, or the pumpkin ravioli with butter and sage that the restaurant is named for. It’s at 162 Alcazar Avenue.

Dōma, Wynwood

Southern Italian cooking with housemade pasta, and a patio that feels calmer than most of Wynwood. Order the spaghetti alle vongole or the bucatini cacio e pepe with Sichuan black pepper. It’s at 35 NE 26th Street and has a private dining room for up to 12.

Beauty & The Butcher, Coral Gables

A Grove Bay Hospitality dining room with forest green leather booths and a bar that shows off its dry-aged meat. Order the dry-aged bolognese: hand-cut mafalde with pecorino, truffle bread crumbs and basil. It comes with focaccia for the sauce.

The Design District rooms

Four Italian dining rooms sit within a few blocks of each other here, and each makes a different pitch.

Mother Wolf, Design District

Evan Funke’s Roman pasta, with a glass-walled pasta lab in the dining room so you can watch the dough get rolled. Order the rigatoni all’amatriciana, the tonnarelli cacio e pepe or the spaghetti alle vongole. Reservations are hard to get, so book early.

Torno Subito, Design District

Massimo Bottura’s only Miami restaurant, now on the ground floor of The Moore. Order the bucatini cacio e pepe with candied Florida citrus zest, or the tortellini. The pasta tasting menu is the move for a first visit.

 02Torno Subito

Design District · Restaurant · $$$$

date-night group-friendly sophisticated

Massimo Bottura’s only U.S. restaurant brings playful, story-driven Italian cuisine to The Moore, in the Miami Design District.

Contessa, Design District

Major Food Group’s Northern Italian trattoria, across two floors with emerald drapery and pink plaster walls. It serves lunch, so it works as a shopping stop too.

 03Contessa Miami

Design District · Restaurant · $$$$

date-night group-friendly sophisticated

Northern Italian dining inspired by Lake Como, set inside a grand Design District restaurant with marble, teak and skyline views.

Sofia, Design District

A pink-marble Toronto import on Palm Court, with DJs and live music.
