ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Two children and two adults are back home, and one child was still recovering at a hospital Friday after a car crashed into Tattle Tale Learning Center on Thursday afternoon in the Pine Hills community near Orlando.

Debris remained scattered outside the daycare on Friday. Tape was placed across the front door, along with a sign warning that the building is not safe and cannot be entered until repairs are made.

Barriers were visible outside several other daycares on Pine Hills Road near Tattle Tale Learning Center.

Some daycares added barriers as a precaution after a deadly crash at a daycare in Winter Park in 2014, where 4-year-old Lily Quintus was killed when a car crashed into the building.

After that crash, Orange County passed a rule in 2016 requiring barriers for permits issued for new projects or renovations at daycares. Because Tattle Tale Learning Center was established before then and had not undergone renovations, barriers were not required.

Orange County permitting records show the building has been used as a childcare facility since 2009. According to state records, the daycare is licensed, and the Florida Department of Children and Family Services found no violations during its most recent inspection in July.

Several other daycares are located nearby on Pine Hills Road, including Tiny Miracles Academy. Owner Anthonice Roberts said she is praying for the families and staff at Tattle Tale Learning Center.

“That could happen to anybody, that somebody ran into a building,” Roberts said. “That can happen. I was just telling my teacher here, like, be on alert. Be looking out at all times because we have no control over the traffic when it is coming up and down the roads.”

Repairs will be needed before Tattle Tale Learning Center can reopen. It is not clear how long that work will take, meaning families will need to find other daycare options in the meantime.

Several nearby daycares said they have space and are ready to help.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Two children and two adults are back home, and one child was still recovering…

[11
2967,115,1335,139,141,140,277,9429
post-430418","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-orlando","tag-app-public-safety","tag-news","tag-orange-county","tag-orlando","tag-orlando-headlines","tag-orlando-news","tag-public-safety","tag-sarah-winkelmann
["GET
