They separated at some point, and later ended up at the same house in the Banner Lake area.

One of the men tried to rob his friend and take what he had on him, which included two cellphones, Sheriff John Budensiek said. The man did not give the other his cell phones and then left the home to separate himself from the other man.

As he walked towards his own house, the other man walked about a hundred yards behind him, according to Budensiek.

At some point, the man turned on a road and took off running in attempt to lose the other man behind him. The man who was following him began walking along Southeast Citrus Way while talking to himself, yelling at people, and making threats that he would shoot his friend.

The man ended up in front of his friend’s house, according to Budensiek. Someone else inside the house needed to go out to her car so the friend armed himself with a gun.

They walk out to the car, as the woman is grabbing things from her car the other man starts yelling. The friend and the woman go back in the home, but she realized she forgot something so they go outside a second time, according to Budensiek.

The man outside the house began getting aggressive and threatening to shoot his friend. The friends walked toward him, and the man pulled a handgun from his waistband. The friend pulled out his gun and shot the other man in the chest three times, according to Budensiek.

The friend threw his gun down and ran into the house to get a towel and call 911. He tried to provide aid and was still on scene when deputies arrived.

Budensiek said by the time the shooting happened about 9 p.m., the friend had stopped drinking and sobered up, but the other man had continued to drink.

Deputies and Martin County Fire Rescue crews provided aid to the man before he was flown to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach with life-threatening injuries. The man had passed before getting to the hospital, according to Budensiek.

Deputies brought the friend to the Sheriff’s Office, who was cooperative and told deputies what happened. The Sheriff’s Office continued to find videos of the incident, talk to witnesses, and get in contact with other witnesses for additional information.

The Sheriff’s Office recovered both of the guns and have them in their possession.

As of the afternoon of Oct. 15, the Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the incident.

Olivia Franklin is TCPalm’s trending and breaking news reporter.
