JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2013 Thousands of spectators packed NAS Jacksonville on Saturday for the first day of the NAS Jacksonville Air Show, filling the flight line to watch the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds perform high-speed maneuvers and aerial stunts overhead.<\/p>\n
For many attendees, the performances were worth the trip. But getting to the show proved challenging, with some visitors waited in hours-long traffic delays and difficulty finding parking near the base.<\/p>\n
The air show drew aviation enthusiasts from across the region, with spectators lining the grounds and nearby roadways to catch a glimpse of the military demonstration teams.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love watching the Blue Angels fly. It\u2019s just an adrenaline rush,\u201d one spectator said as the jets roared overhead.<\/p>\n
Throughout the day, crowds watched as aircraft performed precision formations, loops and low-altitude flyovers that left many attendees cheering and reaching for their phones to capture the action.<\/p>\n
Others described the power of the aircraft as unforgettable.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt felt like they broke the noise barrier,\u201d attendee Sara said. \u201cMy ears are ringing sometimes whenever they pass by.\u201d<\/p>\n
For some visitors, the event also carried a sense of patriotism and nostalgia.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt really makes me feel more American seeing this,\u201d attendee Drake Buchanan said. \u201cThe Thunderbirds I heard growing up and the Blue Angels from my grandparents and parents made it something I\u2019ve always wanted to see.\u201d<\/p>\n
While the aerial performances impressed crowds, traffic and parking issues became a common topic of conversation on the ground.<\/p>\n
Drivers reported long backups along Roosevelt Boulevard as parking lots filled quickly as people searched for places to park.<\/p>\n
\u201cTraffic was terrible,\u201d Buchanan said. \u201cIt was like three hours of traffic and then the lots were full. We\u2019re parked randomly on the side of the road over there, just hoping we don\u2019t get towed.\u201d<\/p>\n
Some attendees suggested organizers consider additional parking options or designated off-site parking areas to help manage future crowds.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel like it would be a lot more put together if there was better parking,\u201d Sara said.<\/p>\n
Despite the delays and congestion, many spectators said the experience was still worth it.<\/p>\n
When asked whether the event justified the traffic headaches, Buchanan quickly responded: \u201cYeah, it does.\u201d<\/p>\n
The NAS Jacksonville Air Show continues Sunday and is free to attend. <\/p>\n
Gates open at 9:00 a.m. and air show demonstration starts at 11:00 a.m.<\/p>\n
Parking on base is also free, though attendees are encouraged to arrive early and plan for heavy traffic as crowds return for the final day of performances.<\/p>\n
