The other was on Sept. 10, 2004, a game Miami won 16-10 on a Frank Gore 18-yard rushing touchdown.

7: Miami faced its largest deficit of the season on Saturday — seven points, when the Seminoles went up 21-14 with 4:09 left in the third quarter and again 35-28 when FSU scored first to open the first overtime period. Prior to this, Miami trailed just once, by three points at the start of the Central Michigan game that quickly became a 52-3 rout. Miami trailed for 9:36 total against FSU and has played from behind for just 13:34 through six games.

583: Miami’s offense put up 583 yards of offense, the most yards the Hurricanes have had in a game against FSU since at least 1995. The only other time in that span that UM had at least 500 yards in a game against the Seminoles was in their 52-10 win on Sept. 26, 2020, when Miami had 517 yards.

Miami Hurricanes running back Javian Mallory (21) on a carry in the second half against the Florida State Seminoles at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, on Saturday, October 17, 2026. Mark Fletcher Jr. had 66 rushing yards and a touchdown on 16 carries, while Jordan Lyle added 42 yards on nine rushes, Malachi Toney 31 yards on two carries, Darian Mensah 6 yards on three carries and Girard Pringle Jr. 4 yards on one carry.

Mallory is just the seventh Hurricanes player this century to have a 100-yard rushing game against FSU, joining Damien Martinez in 2014, Duke Johnson in 2014, Damien Berry in 2010, Tyrone Moss in 2005, Jarrett Payton in 2004 and Clinton Portis in 2001.

Miami Hurricanes quarterback Darian Mensah (10) throws a long pass to wide receiver Malachi Toney (1) in the first half against the Florida State Seminoles at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, on Saturday, October 17, 2026. It snapped a run of 152 consecutive passes without an interception to begin his Hurricanes tenure. Despite the blemish, Mensah still completed 23 of 34 passes for 326 yards and three touchdowns — strikes of 14 yards and 3 yards to Toney plus a 3-yard score to Elija Lofton.

154: Speaking of Toney, he once again did it all for Miami. The star sophomore wide receiver caught 11 passes for 154 yards and two touchdowns, ran for 31 yards and threw for Miami’s two-point conversion in double overtime. It was his third career game with at least 100 receiving yards and two touchdowns, putting him in a five-way tie for the most in UM history along with Santana Moss, Andre Johnson, Phillip Dorsett and Charleston Rambo. Toney on the season already has 50 catches for 758 yards and eight touchdowns.

Toney continues to climb multiple UM all-time leaderboards. His 159 career catches rank fourth all-time in UM history, while his 1,969 career receiving yards are 10th and his 18 receiving touchdowns ninth. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that he breaks all three records (200 catches and 2,844 receiving yards by Xavier Restrepo, 26 touchdowns by Michael Irvin) by the end of the year. The same can be said resetting the school’s single-season records. Toney already has the records for catches and receiving yards with 109 and 1,211, respectively set last year, while the single-season receiving touchdowns is 13 by Leonard Hankerson in 2010.

Miami Hurricanes defensive back Bryce Fitzgerald (3) intercepts the pass for a touchback during the second overtime against the Florida State Seminoles at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, on Saturday, October 17, 2026. The Hurricanes have forced seven turnovers over the past four games

12: Mo Toure had a game-high 12 tackles, a single-game career-high. His previous high was 11, set in 2023 while at Rutgers and matched last season in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

443: Miami’s defense did give up 443 total yards to FSU, the most allowed under defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman and just the second time they’ve given up more than 400 yards since he took over the role last season (also, fittingly, Florida State with 404 yards in last season’s matchup).

68: The Hurricanes were called for 68 yards of penalties in the first half against Florida State. This included four personal fouls — a first-quarter targeting by defensive back Zechariah Poyser on FSU quarterback Ashton Daniels, a Chase Smith facemask call on Daniels in the second quarter, a Bobby Pruit facemask call on a Miami second-quarter punt and an unsportsmanlike conduct call on Keona Davis at the end of that punt. All but the Poyser penalty directly led to FSU points.

                Jordan McPherson

                    Miami Herald

Jordan McPherson covers the Miami Hurricanes and Florida Panthers for the Miami Herald.
