PETERSBURG, Fla. \u2013 Sebastian Cruz scored a long-range strike with two minutes to go as the Tampa Bay Rowdies took a 1-0 victory against Detroit City FC at Al Lang Stadium on Saturday night to clinch the 2026 USL Championship Players\u2019 Shield, marking the second time the club claimed the trophy in its history.<\/p>\n
With the victory, the Rowdies moved eight points clear at the top of the overall USL Championship standings ahead of both Detroit City and El Paso Locomotive FC, sealing the club\u2019s first silverware since it won both the Players\u2019 Shield and the Eastern Conference title. <\/p>\n
The campaign, which has seen the Rowdies claim a league-best 17 victories with one game remaining, saw Tampa Bay go undefeated over its first 12 games of the regular season, establishing a margin to the remainder of the league no-one was able to bridge. The Rowdies\u2019 +24 goal differential also currently ranks first in the league, highlighting the balance the side has achieved in its first full season under Head Coach Dominic Casciato.<\/p>\n

Leading an overhauled roster that now features only two players that ended the 2025 campaign with the club, Tampa Bay recorded its 15th shutout of the regular season against Le Rouge.
