{"id":431812,"date":"2026-10-19T07:06:17","date_gmt":"2026-10-19T07:06:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/431812\/"},"modified":"2026-10-19T07:06:17","modified_gmt":"2026-10-19T07:06:17","slug":"uthmeier-to-hold-press-conference-at-fiu-regarding-raul-castro-arrest-warrant-nbc-6-south-florida-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/431812\/","title":{"rendered":"Uthmeier to hold press conference at FIU regarding Ra\u00fal Castro \u2018arrest warrant\u2019 \u2013 NBC 6 South Florida"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Attorney General James Uthmeier will hold a news conference at Florida International University on Monday regarding an &#8220;arrest warrant&#8221; for former Cuban leader Ra\u00fal Castro.<\/p>\n<p>The news conference will be held at 10 a.m. <\/p>\n<p>Specific details on the news conference remain limited. <\/p>\n<p>The news conference comes months after Castro was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcmiami.com\/news\/local\/live-updates-lawmakers-expected-to-announce-indictment-of-raul-castro\/3809773\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">indicted by the United States<\/a>\u00a0on May 20 for his alleged role in the 1996 downing of two planes operated by the Miami-based exile group Brothers to the Rescue.<\/p>\n<p>The indictment charges Castro and five others &#8211; Lorenzo Alberto Perez-Perez, Emilio Jose Palacio Blanco, Jose Fidel Gual Barzaga, Raul Simanca Cardenas, and Luis Raul Gonzalez-Pardo Rodriguez &#8211; with multiple charges: four counts of murder, two counts of destruction of aircraft, and conspiracy to kill U.S. nationals.<\/p>\n<p>Castro, now 95, was Cuba&#8217;s defense minister at the time of the shootdown. The five others charged were pilots allegedly involved in the operation.<\/p>\n<p>A previous report included Gov. Ron DeSantis in the announcement.
