Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier is set to announce an arrest warrant for former Cuban President Raul Castro during a news conference in Miami in about an hour, where he will be joined by Gov. Ron DeSantis and Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz. <\/p>\n

Multiple news outlets report that the announcement will provide an update regarding Castro, who is facing a no-bond charge of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in Miami. <\/p>\n

The arrest warrant stems from the 1996 Brothers to the Rescue shootdown, in which two planes belonging to the Miami-based Cuban exile organization were shot down. <\/p>\n

A judge found probable cause to believe Castro conspired to commit first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of four men aboard the civilian planes. <\/p>\n

The attorney general’s office reopened the state\u2019s investigation into Castro after Uthmeier took office in 2025. Uthmeier is expected to formally announce the arrest warrant during the news conference.<\/p>\n
