JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 The Florida Department of Transportation is investing more than $25 million in two major projects along Butler Boulevard, commonly known as JTB, aimed at improving traffic flow and roadway conditions on one of Jacksonville\u2019s busiest corridors.<\/p>\n
\u201cButler Boulevard is really the main east-west intersection of Jacksonville. It is really the gateway to Jacksonville\u2019s beaches,\u201d FDOT spokesperson Jacob Pickering said.<\/p>\n
>>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<<<\/a><\/p>\n The two contracts, valued at $10.9 million and $14.2 million, focus on reducing congestion and improving infrastructure along the route.<\/p>\n The first project is at the intersection of JTB and Philips Highway, where FDOT is reconfiguring the intersection to reduce traffic-signal phases and improve traffic flow.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s basically a new intersection that will eliminate two left-turn phases and make the intersection have a lot less congestion,\u201d Pickering said.<\/p>\n Construction on that project began in June and is expected to be completed in the fall of 2028.<\/p>\n The second project covers JTB from Belfort Road to Hodges Boulevard. The $14.2 million effort includes resurfacing, drainage improvements, guardrail upgrades and bridge work.<\/p>\n That project is expected to be completed in late 2027.<\/p>\n [DOWNLOAD: Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks<\/a>]<\/p>\n As construction continues on both projects, FDOT is urging drivers to remain alert in work zones.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen you\u2019re driving at night or really any time, always look around you. Watch out for cones, watch out for lights.
