2024, Gaffney said the intersection had averaged 41 crashes over five to six years<\/a>. The City Council Finance Committee had approved $1.5 million for Northside infrastructure projects, including work near Dunn Avenue and Braddock Road.<\/p>\nJackie Curry is still dealing with damage to her home after a car crashed into it for the third time last year, causing part of the house to collapse.<\/p>\n
Asked about the condition of the home, Curry said, \u201cBecause it is the same. So, like I said, I didn\u2019t have property homeowner\u2019s insurance at the time because I couldn\u2019t afford it. And so, I hadn\u2019t been able to get it fixed because there wasn\u2019t enough…car insurance.\u201d<\/p>\n
The first estimate for the visible damage was about $40,000.<\/p>\n
Curry said speed bumps have been installed on Braddock Road. \u201cThere are still crashes along Dunn Avenue right here, but I can say that I was happy to report that, um, there\u2019s two, uh, speed bumps down Braddock Road now,\u201d she said. \u201cSo I feel a little safer.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI know the traffic light is going to make the congestion and, and the traffic, um, on Dunn Avenue safer with, um, I like being there. So I\u2019m excited about that,\u201d Curry said.<\/p>\n
The Florida Department of Transportation previously said it planned to add a traffic light at the intersection in late 2027. <\/p>\n
Residents hope Thursday\u2019s meeting will provide an update on the timeline and other potential safety measures.<\/p>\n
