TAMPA, Fla. (WWSB) – A recently released felon is facing multiple charges after deputies say he opened fire on two people and shot one in the back outside an East Tampa business complex.<\/p>\n
The Hillsborough County Sheriff\u2019s Office said its 911 center received reports of shots fired about 1:49 p.m. Monday in the roadway leading into the Netpark business complex near the 6200 block of East Hillsborough Avenue.<\/p>\n
Detectives said a man fired a gun at two people as they ran away. A short time later, one of the individuals showed up at a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound to the back. Deputies said the injury was not life-threatening.<\/p>\n
Investigators identified the suspected shooter as 23-year-old Timothy Carter III. Deputies said Carter was spotted nearby, and they quickly took him into custody. Detectives reported finding a firearm in a nearby trash can.<\/p>\n
According to the sheriff\u2019s office, Carter was released from prison in May after serving time for carjacking with a firearm.<\/p>\n
Detectives also learned he had an active warrant issued Oct. 8 by the Tampa Police Department on charges of robbery with a firearm and felon in possession of a firearm.<\/p>\n
Along with the active warrant, Carter faces charges including attempted second-degree murder while wearing a mask, aggravated battery with great bodily harm or a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm in public while wearing a mask and two counts of felon in possession of a firearm.<\/p>\n
He is also charged with robbery with a firearm involving less than $750 and tampering with physical evidence.<\/p>\n
The investigation remains ongoing, authorities said<\/p>\n
