INTERIOR DESIGNER UNIT #2505: Homeowner Karen Thomas

PHOTOGRAPHER: Gabriel Burgos

Located on Central Avenue in Downtown St. Pete, this Art House residence lives up to the 42-story condo tower’s name through its enduring luxury and modern minimalist craftsmanship. With an emphasis on natural stone, rich woods, leathers and custom artisan finishes, the airy residence captures Art House’s sophisticated look while remaining deeply personal to homeowners Karen Thomas and Rick Brobst.

Every finish complements the scenery, from natural stone to warm woods and textured plaster; they work in harmony with the surrounding landscape, creating a timeless, sophisticated retreat.

The hand-plastered walls and bespoke hand-painted kitchen backsplash are truly one-of-a-kind artisan installations that cannot be replicated. Throughout the residence, carefully collected artwork from the homeowners’ travels in Europe and Asia transforms the home into a personal gallery reflecting years of travel and shared experiences.

Nearly every primary living space captures spectacular waterfront panoramas. The great room and kitchen flow seamlessly onto the expansive terrace, overlooking Tampa Bay, the Skyway Bridge and the Gulf beyond. The primary suite and both guest bedrooms enjoy equally breathtaking water views, creating the feeling of waking up in a luxury resort every day.

Every storage solution, like the custom wine bar and built-in beverage center, was thoughtfully concealed to preserve the minimalist aesthetic and the home’s architectural lines while enhancing functionality.

The home embraces the St. Pete lifestyle by creating a seamless transition between sophisticated interior living and outdoor spaces that capture uninterrupted views from sunrise to sunset.

""A natural wood dining table from Pottery Barn anchors the dining space, paired with mobile custom fabric chairs that add flexibility and comfort. A sculptural light fixture serves as a focal point overhead, while a stone centerpiece from Arhaus adds an organic, timeless element.

""Artwork throughout the condo reflects the owners’ travels, including pieces from Europe, Bali, Umbria and the islands.

""Neutral tones and custom plaster walls by Splat Paint LLC Splat Paint LLC create a warm backdrop for the kitchen’s classic design. Custom leather bar stools from Restoration Hardware surround a quartz island with a waterfall edge. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows and doors maximize panoramic waterfront and
city views.

""Upon entering the home, striking artwork collected during the owners’ travels makes a memorable first impression. Hand-applied organic plaster walls by Splat Paint LLC, a timeless entry table and a massive circular mirror from Restoration Hardware create an elegant, timeless welcome.

""In the study, a natural wood desk from Restoration Hardware and an Arhaus chair pair with a custom wall-to-wall built-in by California Design. The minimalist, neutral palette creates a timeless, refined workspace.

""Dark cabinetry balances lighter countertops for a timeless look, while a statement chandelier from Williams Sonoma and custom textured plaster walls by Splat Paint LLC add a touch of drama. Crystal accents and contrasting finishes create a balanced space.

""A bubble light fixture from Pottery Barn adds a playful touch to the primary bedroom, while the dramatic scale of the mirrors and lighting creates a sense of quiet luxury. Artwork collected in Umbria and expansive waterfront views bring a personal touch to the warm, modern space.
