The Florida DOGE team revealed Cape Coral could save up to $6.5 million by addressing personnel costs and improving project bidding processes.<\/p>\n

The Florida Department of Government Efficiency has identified potential savings of millions of dollars for Cape Coral after reviewing the city\u2019s spending from fiscal years 2024 through 2026. <\/p>\n

DOGE found the city could save between $3.8 million and $6.5 million by cutting personnel costs. The audit revealed that Cape Coral budgets for over 1,500 civilian positions, but 124 of those positions remain unfilled. DOGE also noted that while the city\u2019s staffing is \u201clean,\u201d some managerial roles could be expanded to eliminate certain positions. Additionally, DOGE found approximately $7 million in budgeted salaries for unfilled law enforcement positions. <\/p>\n

DOGE also recommended the city allow for more competition in project bidding. Analysts identified over $100 million in change orders that \u201creflect additional non-competitive spending.\u201d To address this, DOGE suggested better design processes and more competitive bidding practices. <\/p>\n

The city said it had already eliminated six vacant positions, saving approximately $850,000, before receiving DOGE\u2019s letter.<\/p>\n
