Aaron Boone isn’t uncomfortable with the uncertainty.

For the second time in four seasons, Boone is set to manage the Yankees on an expiring contract, leaving his future beyond 2027 very much up in the air.

“Doesn’t bother me at all,” Boone said Wednesday during an end-of-season video call.

“We’ll have players that are free-agents-to-be at the end of the season. We’ll have coaches potentially on expiring contracts, front office, all those things. That’s life. That’s part of it.”

After a second consecutive ALDS loss to a division rival, the Yankees decided to bring Boone back next season for the final year of his contract but have not discussed an extension with their longtime manager.

In the final guaranteed year of his previous deal, Boone took the Yankees to the 2024 World Series. The Yankees then picked up his 2025 club option before signing him to an extension through the 2027 season.

Pressure has only mounted since then, with the Yankees now on a 17-year championship drought, including the past nine years under Boone.

This was the sixth year in a row that the Yankees failed to defeat a higher-seeded playoff opponent.

“I believe it can happen with me at the helm, but any answer I give in defense of that isn’t going to be a great one or satisfy people,” Boone said.

“I think I’m good at my job,” he said. “I think we have a lot of the right people in the building, but at the end of the day, we haven’t won a championship with me at the helm, and ultimately that’s what has to happen to satisfy, certainly, myself — like, that’s why I’m doing this — but to answer those questions.”

Owner Hal Steinbrenner acknowledged Wednesday that team brass had a week-long discussion about Boone following this month’s playoff loss to the Tampa Bay Rays and determined he wasn’t responsible for this season’s shortcomings.

Instead, Steinbrenner largely pinned the Yankees’ issues on an underperforming offense.

“I thought Boone managed a good season, especially with the pitching staff,” Steinbrenner said on a separate call.

“We had a lot of additions and subtractions in the rotation throughout the course of the season. Our bullpen was absolutely exhausted by the end of the season. He got through all that and he got us to the playoffs, and the bottom line is the players didn’t live up to their end of the bargain in the playoffs.”

Boone boasts a .583 winning percentage and eight playoff berths in his nine years on the job, including 2026, when the Yankees went 93-68 despite the prolonged injury absences of Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.

Judge and ace Cam Schlittler were among the prominent Yankees to vouch for Boone after their ALDS defeat.

Still, Boone is aware that the public’s perception of him hinges on whether he can finally win that elusive World Series.

“I want to be the best I can be at my job. That’s where my focus lies,” Boone said.

“If we don’t win a championship while I’m here, I’m sure that will be a frontline story of it all and how people think of me and how a fan base reacts. I understand that. I understood that when I took this job. I don’t define myself by how people look at me and judge me in my job. My job is to go be the best I can possibly be and try and get the most out of this club.”

Aaron Boone isn’t uncomfortable with the uncertainty.
