Woolery added the goal is not restriction but structure that allows children to enjoy treats and then return to normal eating habits.Get creative with leftovers – “You still get the fun flavor of Halloween candy, but you’re also adding fiber, protein and other nutrients that help create a more balanced snack,” Woolery said. One example is homemade trail mix made with whole-grain cereal, nuts and dried fruit, with a few pieces of candy mixed in for sweetness.

Woolery also spoke of seeking alternatives to candy that satisfy a sweet tooth while adding some nutritional value. Woolery recommends:

Dried fruit (fiber)Yogurt-covered raisins (fiber)Chocolate-covered nuts (protein)

“These options can provide nutrients such as fiber, protein, vitamins and minerals while still feeling like a treat,” Woolery said. “One night of trick-or-treating isn’t what impacts long-term health. It’s the habits we practice every day. When families approach Halloween with balance and moderation, everyone can enjoy the holiday without the sugar scare.”

Click here to download our free news, weather and traffic app. And click here to subscribe to our daily 3 Big Things newsletter.

©2026 Cox Media Group

ORLANDO, Fla. – The American Heart Association recommends children ages 2 and older consume no more than 25…

[11
6029,6030,170666,147,170669,28,503,18541,170667,170668,139,141,6031,140,5597
post-435771","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-orlando","tag-580am","tag-am580","tag-candy-health-benefits","tag-central-florida","tag-children-with-candy","tag-florida","tag-halloween","tag-halloween-candy","tag-health-with-candy","tag-is-candy-healthy","tag-orlando","tag-orlando-headlines","tag-orlando-health","tag-orlando-news","tag-wdbo
["GET
