JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2013 The Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office wants to keep you and those you love from falling for scams, which are evolving every day to be sneakier and harder to spot.<\/p>\n
To that end, the agency is launching \u201cScam Free Saturdays,\u201d which will feature a social media post every Saturday highlighting ways to avoid scams.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s something our officers are getting calls about every single day. Scams. Scam phone calls and texts. Fake emails and social media posts. All with the intention of tricking you and your family out of your money,\u201d JSO wrote in a news release announcing the initiative.<\/p>\n
JSO said that as the scam world continues changing, the agency\u2019s Economic Crimes detectives are working hard to hold scammers accountable.<\/p>\n
But, ideally, they want to help you spot the tricksters before they snag your hard-earned money or personal info.<\/p>\n
JSO said that some weeks, the social media posts will feature a current scam case that JSO is working on, and other weeks they might highlight a type of scam we think people need to be aware of.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you see our Scam Free Saturday posts, help us spread the message. Tell your loved ones, no matter what age they are, to be on alert for scams,\u201d JSO said.<\/p>\n
Some basic tips to always keep in mind:<\/p>\n
If something doesn\u2019t feel right, trust your gut. <\/p>\n
Hang up the phone if you feel pressured in any way.<\/p>\n
Don\u2019t click the link, whether it\u2019s in an email, a text, a direct message on social media or anywhere else.<\/p>\n
If you do fall victim, call the police right away. <\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s nothing to be embarrassed about when it comes to scams,\u201d JSO said. \u201cThe sooner you call, the faster our detectives can track down your scammer.\u201d<\/p>\n
