(WCTV) – New details emerged Friday about two U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) vehicles seen at an early voting site in Tallahassee earlier this week.

In a press release Friday, Leon County Supervisor of Elections Mark Earley said that according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), two CBP vehicles were at the Northeast Branch Library early voting site Monday morning because the agents “thought they could vote at that location, which is incorrect since they were not Leon County voters.”

The two CBP vehicles were at the site for about 10 minutes, according to the press release.

However, when they realized they could not vote at that location, the agents “immediately left the early voting site,” Earley said.

The Supervisor of Elections’ press release went on to say that the team of agents is normally stationed in South Florida but was recently reassigned to a North Florida location.

However, as they traveled north out of state on US Highway 319, Earley said the agents approached the NE Library early voting location just before realizing they were leaving the state and would not be present on Election Day.

The longtime supervisor said he’s satisfied that this was “an isolated instance of agents attempting to vote before they left Florida.”

“I accept this account of the incident, as it fits the facts as I understand them, and it is in keeping with the guarantees election officials received that federal agents would not be stationed at polling sites.”

The new details come after Earley announced earlier this week that he filed a formal complaint with the FBI regarding the vehicles seen at the site and that they were “taking this very seriously.”

Earlier this year, the supervisor told WCTV that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) would not be at the polling stations. He made this announcement due to concerns about federal officials from ICE and Homeland Security being present at polling stations.

“Don’t worry, there’s not going to be ICE at the polling stations. We get that question a lot. I get that from our poll workers during training,” Earley told WCTV. “No, that’s not happening. I’ve been assured of that from my contacts and our partners at Homeland Security and FBI, FDLE. Yeah. That’s illegal.”

To keep up with the latest news as it develops, follow WCTV on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Nextdoor and X (Twitter).

Have a news tip or see an error? Write to us here.
