In doing research, he came across the Phoenix-based nonprofit, <a href=\"https:\/\/thesingletonsaz.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/thesingletonsaz.org\/\">The Singletons<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text text-start\">\u201cOnce I saw their mission, because it isn\u2019t just single parents. It\u2019s single parents dealing with cancer. After reading that, I was like, OK, that\u2019s what I want to raise money for. I reached out, and now we\u2019re here,\u201d he told Arizona\u2019s Family.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text text-start\">He started in sunny Orlando, Florida, and ended his journey in Seattle, Washington. The trek took him a little over seven months \u2014 213 days exactly \u2014 to complete. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text text-start\">Ruiz raised a whopping $14,000 dollars for The Singletons, which helps restock households with essential supplies, nutritious meal kits, and birthday gifts for children.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text text-start\">\u201cIt was a literal rollercoaster, lots of ups and downs. But I wouldn\u2019t trade it for the world. I\u2019d do it again,\u201d he told Arizona\u2019s Family, adding that he\u2019s \u201cexhausted\u201d and that it may take some time to recover.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text text-start\">The Singletons\u2019 founder, Jody Boyd, said she\u2019s \u201chonored and grateful\u201d for the donations, calling Ruiz \u201cremarkable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text text-start\">\u201cAt any point, he could\u2019ve just said, \u2018Oh, I\u2019ve had it,\u2019 and just turned around and gone back. But he didn\u2019t.
