(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysuncoast.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.mysuncoast.com\/\">WWSB<\/a>) &#8211; Florida\u2019s two major candidates for governor held controlled rallies in Tallahassee on the same day, one week before Election Day. They did not appear together on a debate stage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Congressman Byron Donalds appeared on stage with Florida\u2019s chief financial officer, who is his running mate, and local elected officials.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Donalds spoke about consistency.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cMy sons will tell you, dad is consistent. He gets on us about the same thing, doesn\u2019t matter what the child is,\u201d Donalds said. \u201cBecause there\u2019s consistency in a home, it\u2019s how you have strong kids, it\u2019s how you have healthy families. Politically, yeah, we require consistency in our country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Neither Donalds nor his surrogates mentioned President Donald Trump in their speeches. The crowd was all Republican.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysuncoast.com\/2026\/10\/23\/gubernatorial-candidates-court-voters-ahead-nov-3-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.mysuncoast.com\/2026\/10\/23\/gubernatorial-candidates-court-voters-ahead-nov-3-election\/\">Gubernatorial candidates court voters ahead of Nov. 3 election<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">David Jolly faces long odds to win, perhaps as low as 20% on some prediction markets. A recent UNF poll showed the race could be a toss-up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cAnd frankly, we\u2019re a nation and a state that\u2019s exhausted by those politics. And we\u2019re feeling the results of those politics,\u201d Jolly said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">If Donalds wins, he would become the first Black governor in Florida history. He may need to mend fences with the Legislature, which previously launched investigations into the governor\u2019s office and modified the governor\u2019s priorities on property taxes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cHow we\u2019re going to conduct ourselves is we\u2019re going to meet, you know, pretty frequently, make sure that there\u2019s clear lines of communication about how we\u2019re going to put forward the right policies to lower costs for the people in our state,\u201d Donalds said.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 WWSB.
