JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 With six days until the November general election, Democratic gubernatorial candidate David Jolly made a campaign stop in Jacksonville as part of his Believe in Better Tour.<\/p>\n
Jolly appeared with his running mate, former U.S. Congresswoman Gwen Graham. U.S. Senate candidate and Jacksonville native Angie Nixon also took the stage.<\/p>\n
\u201cEach one of us in six days need to do everything we can to make sure that this election is decided by the people who show up,\u201d Jolly said.<\/p>\n
The event on Jacksonville\u2019s Eastside also included Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan, former Mayor Alvin Brown and Florida Sen. Tracie Davis, who showed their support for Jolly and Nixon.<\/p>\n
Nixon spoke at the Jacksonville International Longshoreman\u2019s Association about issues including wages, housing and veterans.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just care about people and want to make sure that people get paid a living wage. And make sure people have a roof over their head and make sure our veterans aren\u2019t living on the streets and don\u2019t have to wait six months to see a doctor,\u201d Nixon said.<\/p>\n
Shawna Boyer said concerns about the job market and housing affordability motivated her vote for Nixon.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need more jobs,\u201d Boyer said.<\/p>\n
Cindy Corey said she also wants to see changes.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s time for some changes. I don\u2019t know about some people but I\u2019ve lived in Florida for over 30, 40 years and I think we need some better policies for the community,\u201d Corey said.<\/p>\n
The Duval County Supervisor of Elections reported 23% voter turnout with four more days of early voting.<\/p>\n
On Nov. 3, voters will decide between incumbent Ashley Moody and Nixon in the U.S. Senate race, while Congressman Byron Donalds and Jolly are competing for governor.<\/p>\n
Early voting in Duval County ends Sunday, Nov. 1. The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 3.<\/p>\n
