TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Another high-stakes meeting between Leon County Schools and the Leon Classroom Teachers\u2019 Association is scheduled for Wednesday evening. <\/p>\n
The two organizations have struggled to move forward after the LCTA voted down a slight pay raise<\/a> last month.<\/p>\n Scott Mazur, president of the teachers\u2019 association, said people need to realize that asking for higher teacher pay isn\u2019t just about teachers, because their pay directly translates into the quality of education students receive.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s significant to our educators that are representative of union members and non-union members – the bargaining unit – that said, \u2018It\u2019s just not enough. It\u2019s hard to stay in the classroom, can\u2019t focus on my students as much because I\u2019ve got to work multiple jobs.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n More Tallahassee news:<\/p>\n Leon County Schools previously said in a statement that there wasn\u2019t additional money available without cutting programs, saying reserves were depleted and expenses had risen. <\/p>\n LCS declined to comment ahead of Wednesday\u2019s meeting. <\/p>\n Mazur said they will continue pushing for a salary increase in ongoing discussions. <\/p>\n \u201cBased off what we see in budgetary practices, there is room to move and shift priorities, choices that you [the district] can make that can make that happen,\u201d he said. \u201cSo, we just want to be very clear.
