JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 The Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office is investigating a shooting in the Durkeeville area that left a 20-year-old man dead and nine others injured, including a 17-year-old girl.<\/p>\n
At a Sunday media briefing, Commander Vorphal with JSO explained that officers were called to the area of Wilcox and 5th Street at 3:50 a.m. after multiple people were reported shot.<\/p>\n
The sheriff\u2019s office said it appears a total of ten people were shot.<\/p>\n

Vorphal said he was transported to a local hospital but unfortunately passed away.<\/p>\n Commander Vorphal said that of the nine others shot, one was a 15-year-old girl who is in stable condition. <\/p>\n The other eight victims are between the ages of 20 and 25 years old, six being females and two being males. One of the six women is in life-threatening condition while the rest of the victims are reportedly in stable condition, according to JSO.<\/p>\n [DOWNLOAD: Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks<\/a>]<\/p>\n Commander Vorphal said investigators determined a large Halloween party in the area had spilled out onto the streets, involving between 100 and 200 people. At around 3:45 a.m., a round of gunfire rang out, which was then followed by a second round of fire.<\/p>\n JSO detectives believe the majority of people shot were hit by the second round of fire.<\/p>\n Commander Vorphal said the sheriff\u2019s office has not determined the number of suspected shooters and \u201cdo not believe we have them in custody at this time.\u201d <\/p>\n The Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office said that due to the large crowd size, there are likely multiple individuals who may have cellphone video or have witnessed the shooting unfold.<\/p>\n [SIGN UP: Action News Jax Daily Headlines Newsletter<\/a>] <\/p>\n The scene will remain active as detectives canvas for footage and interview witnesses.<\/p>\n Commander Vorphal said that \u201cfirsthand witness accounts are going to be vital to determine the chain of events and who\u2019s responsible for it.\u201d<\/p>\n Anyone with information is urged to call the sheriff\u2019s office at 904-630-0500 or email JSOCRIMETIPS@JAXSHERIFF.ORG<\/a>.
