A portion of Military Trail will be closed until further notice after the Learjet plane crash Sunday afternoon near Greenacres, forcing about 600 people in a mobile home park to be evacuated.<\/p>\n

“It looked like a missile going down,” Gov. Ron DeSantis said at a news conference near the crash site. “There is a big crater on the side of the road. <\/p>\n

“There is a lot of debris that was strewn as a result of this crash.” <\/p>\n

Military Trail is closed between 10th Avenue North and Purdy Lane\/Alameda Drive.<\/p>\n

The public is asked to detour around this area using 10th Avenue North and Purdy Lane\/Alameda Drive for east-west travel and Haverhill Road and Kirk Road for north-south travel. <\/p>\n

Palm Beach County Administrator Joseph Abruzzo said they hope to have an alternate route for Military Trail by Monday. <\/p>\n

Only emergency vehicles are now permitted access. Law enforcement will be on site redirecting non-emergency traffic and assisting local residents, as needed, the county said in a news release. <\/p>\n

“The Palm Beach County Engineering and Public Works Department recognizes that this is a major thoroughfare and understands the inconvenience this closure may cause,” the county said in a news release. “We appreciate the public\u2019s patience and cooperation as we work to re-open the roadway.” <\/p>\n

People at the Cresthaven mobile home park are impacted with the only entrance closed because “it is a crime scene,” Palm Beach County Commissioner Joel G. Flores, whose District 3 serves the area, said. <\/p>\n

“We evacuating the adjacent community,” Flores said. “People we will have a shelter.<\/p>\n

“They will have a place to stay for the night.” <\/p>\n

One shelter is the Greenacres Community Center at 501 Swain Blvd.<\/p>\n

Also, the Red Cross is on standby. <\/p>\n

Business nearby are also affected. <\/p>\n
