FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) \u2014 Lakes Park of South Florida Railroad<\/a> is inviting veterans and their families to enjoy free train rides on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, as part of a celebration honoring those who served in the military.<\/p>\n

According to an event announcement from the railroad, free rides will begin at 10 a.m. for veterans and their families.<\/p>\n

The event will also feature a ceremony to raise a new American flag at the train station in recognition of the nation’s 250th anniversary.<\/p>\n

The flag-raising ceremony is scheduled to begin at 2:50 p.m. Organizers are seeking a color guard to participate.<\/p>\n

Veterans are encouraged to attend in uniform and share their experiences with other veterans and community members.<\/p>\n

According to the announcement, veterans should bring a copy of their DD-214, a military ID or another form of proof of military service to participate in the free rides.<\/p>\n

Exceptions will be made for groups attending from veterans hospitals, Veterans of Foreign Wars posts or American Legion organizations.<\/p>\n

Organizers said railroad staff members will volunteer during the event to assist veterans with special needs.<\/p>\n
