CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami defensive lineman Marquise Lightfoot was named ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week on Monday following his performance in the Hurricanes\u2019 38-35 win at North Carolina.<\/p>\n
Lightfoot finished with seven tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble. His two sacks accounted for 10 yards in losses.<\/p>\n
With Miami holding a 31-28 lead in the fourth quarter, Lightfoot stripped North Carolina quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. on a sack. Defensive lineman Justin Scott recovered the fumble at the Tar Heels\u2019 37-yard line with 5:33 remaining.<\/p>\n
The turnover set up a six-play scoring drive capped by Darian Mensah\u2019s 9-yard touchdown pass to Malachi Toney with 2:33 left. The touchdown extended Miami\u2019s lead to 38-28 and provided the winning margin.<\/p>\n
Lightfoot accounted for two of Miami\u2019s four sacks as the Hurricanes limited North Carolina to 66 rushing yards on 30 attempts.<\/p>\n
Lightfoot has put together a breakout junior season, recording 29 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, seven sacks, two forced fumbles and two pass breakups through eight games. In seven starts, he has already surpassed his previous season totals in tackles, tackles for loss and sacks. His seven sacks are nearly three times the 2.5 he recorded in 15 appearances last season.<\/p>\n
