(TNND) — Heavy rain and flooding are complicating Election Day travel in parts of Florida, where officials have moved polling places in seven counties and warned residents about dangerous road conditions.

The Florida Department of State lists temporary voting locations in Brevard, Highlands, Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee, Palm Beach and St. Lucie counties.

Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency Monday in seven counties — Brevard, DeSoto, Hardee, Highlands, Indian River, Martin and St. Lucie — after heavy rain from Oct. 31 through Nov. 2 triggered flash-flood warnings and threatened roads and other infrastructure.

In St. Lucie County, officials relocated several precincts because flooding affected road access to polling places. The county’s list includes alternate sites such as the Port St. Lucie Community Center, Tradition Town Hall and the MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Event Center. The list may change as conditions are evaluated, so voters should check the county Supervisor of Elections’ website or call 772-462-1500 before leaving.

A separate Port St. Lucie polling site at Legacy High School was open Tuesday, WPEC reported, but flooded roads and barricades complicated the trip.

The flooding has also prompted road closures and the shutdown of some public offices and services across the Treasure Coast. Local officials urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel, obey barricades and never drive through standing water.
