MIAMI \u2014 A man is facing a felony charge after Miami police said he robbed a woman of her purse at gunpoint while at a popular Nicaraguan restaurant in the city\u2019s Little Havana neighborhood.<\/p>\n
Edwin Zuniga, 43, was taken into custody on Wednesday in connection with the Nov. 2 incident at Yambo Restaurant, located at 1643 SW First St.<\/p>\n
Investigators said Zuniga, who is homeless, first drove by the woman and a man she was walking with on Flagler Street, stopped and \u201ctried to talk to her through the driver\u2019s window,\u201d asking her where she was from and trying to engage with her in conversation.<\/p>\n
Then, just after 5:15 a.m., police said Zuniga drove up to the woman as she was walking into the restaurant, \u201cgrabbed her hair\u201d and, with a gun in hand, told her, \u201cI am capable of killing you,\u201d before taking her purse.<\/p>\n
According to the arrest report, Yambo surveillance footage showed a struggle for the purse in which Zuniga kicked the woman, causing her to fall to the ground. <\/p>\n
Police said she tried to walk away but Zuniga managed to snatch the purse, causing her to fall again. They said he then drove off.<\/p>\n
Authorities said they arrested Zuniga on an armed robbery charge Wednesday after a morning traffic stop. He refused to speak with detectives, according to police.<\/p>\n
Jail records show he faces a laundry list of additional grand theft, drug and burglary counts in various cases. As of Thursday afternoon, he was being held without bond in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.<\/p>\n
