MIAMI SPRINGS, Fla. \u2014 Miami Springs police say a routine overnight patrol led to the arrest of a man found carrying burglary tools after officers stopped him early Thursday morning. <\/p>\n
According to police, officers on the midnight shift encountered a bicyclist around 4 a.m. riding without lights through a residential neighborhood while wearing a full face covering. <\/p>\n
When an officer attempted to speak with him, the man \u2014 later identified as Randy Gregory Gotrace \u2014 briefly fled before being detained, police said.<\/p>\n
They said Gotrace refused to provide his name and was found with burglary tools and several items of property that were taken into evidence. <\/p>\n
A records check later revealed what police described as an \u201cextensive violent criminal history.\u201d<\/p>\n
Citing concern for residents\u2019 safety, the responding officer arrested Gotrace on one count each of loitering and prowling.<\/p>\n
The agency highlighted his arrest as an example of \u201ccrime deterrence\u201d during overnight hours, when they said residents are most vulnerable. <\/p>\n
Police also reminded the public to lock their vehicles at night and to report suspicious activity.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur midnight officers protect our community during its most vulnerable hours,\u201d the department said in a statement thanking the shift for its \u201cdedication, awareness, and commitment to keeping Miami Springs safe.\u201d<\/p>\n
