It features two images of Miami Beach advertisements in Times Square\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"  \/><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\tMiami Beach residents had many thoughts about Mayor Steven Meiner&#8217;s advertisement campaign in New York City. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Screenshot via <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/StevenMeiner\/status\/1989030792639533160\" rel=\"nofollow\">X\/@StevenMeiner<\/a><\/p>\n<p>New Times readers, including plenty of <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.miaminewtimes.com\/news\/miami-beach-officials-cheer-end-of-nikki-beach-lease-texts-show-23974964\/\">Miami Beach<\/a> residents, weren\u2019t big fans of <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.miaminewtimes.com\/news\/miami-beach-mayor-runs-tacky-nyc-ads-welcoming-mamdani-refugees-40502259\/\">Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner\u2019s Times Square ad campaign<\/a> inviting New Yorkers to move south.<\/p>\n<p>The billboards, which ran following Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani\u2019s victory in the New York City mayoral election, portray a brightly-hued Miami Beach lifeguard stand with the message, \u201cMiami Beach is open for business. Everyone welcomed! Mayor Steven Meiner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The mayor posted images of the Times Square ads on Thursday with the caption, \u201cNew Yorkers: look up. Miami Beach is open for business. A world-class destination to live, work, and invest capital,\u201d followed by instructions to \u201cText or email me\u201d with the corresponding contact info.<\/p>\n<p>A Miami Beach spokesperson told New Times that the ads were \u201ccoordinated directly by the mayor,\u201d and \u201cno city resources or funds were used in their production or placement.\u201d Meiner dodged a question on social media about who paid for the campaign, merely stating, \u201cNo taxpayer funds were used on this billboard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWhen news happens, Miami New Times is there \u2014 <br \/>Your support strengthens our coverage.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"fundraising-thermometer-body\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWe\u2019re aiming to raise $30,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to you. If\u00a0Miami New Times\u00a0matters to you, please take action and contribute today, so when news happens, our reporters can be there.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Real estate developer <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.miaminewtimes.com\/news\/millionaire-russell-galbut-building-insane-mansion-atop-sobe-parking-garage-6554436\/\">Russell Galbut<\/a> later confirmed to the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.miamiherald.com\/news\/local\/community\/miami-dade\/miami-beach\/article312928334.html\">Miami Herald <\/a>that he had paid for the digital billboards the previous week, but declined to disclose the cost. He stated that the ads were displayed over the course of two days last week. He also revealed that there will be a second billboard that shows people lying on beach chairs with the message: \u201cWhy aren\u2019t you here? Your neighbors are. Welcome to Miami Beach.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meiner nor his office responded to multiple emails or text messages about the ads from New Times. Here is a sampling of what New Times readers had to say about the Miami Beach billboards. Let\u2019s just say they are not welcoming New Yorkers with open arms, despite what the mayor may suggest. <\/p>\n<p>Mayor of New York City Miami Beach<\/p>\n<p>Some commenters pointed out that Meiner should focus on his constituents, rather than recruit newcomers from the Big Apple:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo something for your city.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t want any more New Yorkers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHousing\u2019s already unaffordable down here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t Be Fooled<\/p>\n<p>Others laughed at Meiner\u2019s description of Miami Beach as \u201cworld-class,\u201d given its penchant for flooding and lack of affordability:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWelcome to King Tide Floods\u2026 we  Bustelo at 3.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat city just needs to sink into the ocean already.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leave a city whose new mayor is fighting FOR affordability, and come to one that\u2019s actively FIGHTING affordability!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Word Class Destination\u201d \ud83d\ude02\ud83d\ude02\ud83d\ude02\ud83d\ude02\ud83d\ude02\ud83d\ude02\ud83d\ude02<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEw\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other commenters kept things brief, pointing and laughing at the mere absurdity of Meiner\u2019s splashy Times Square ads:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s giving, desperation\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTruly ridiculous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is embarrassing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImmense loser energy @stevenmeiner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEeeeyuck.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEw. Makes me never want to do the Miami Beach\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTruly ridiculous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCringe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEw lol.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMan.
