(WCTV) &#8211; A Florida bill, intended to prohibit the release of sexual offenders on bail while they await sentencing, was filed Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cMissy\u2019s Law,\u201d filed by Representative Sam Greco, is named after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wctv.tv\/2025\/05\/20\/mom-stepdad-arrested-accused-cruelty-abuse-after-5-year-old-dies-monday-tallahassee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wctv.tv\/2025\/05\/20\/mom-stepdad-arrested-accused-cruelty-abuse-after-5-year-old-dies-monday-tallahassee\/\">5-year-old Missy Mogle<\/a>, who was found unresponsive at a southeast Tallahassee home in May.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Since then, her mom, Chloe Spencer, and stepdad, Daniel Spencer, were both arrested after being accused of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wctv.tv\/2025\/05\/20\/mom-stepdad-arrested-accused-cruelty-abuse-after-5-year-old-dies-monday-tallahassee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wctv.tv\/2025\/05\/20\/mom-stepdad-arrested-accused-cruelty-abuse-after-5-year-old-dies-monday-tallahassee\/\">cruelly neglecting and abusing the young girl<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The legislation wrote that it would be \u201crequiring a court to remand a person found guilty of a dangerous crime to custody immediately\u201d and that person would have to remain in custody while awaiting sentencing or further proceedings without the possibility of being released on bond. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Dangerous crimes include arson, child abuse, elderly abuse, murder and sexual battery.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-center article-text\">More Tallahassee News<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The 5-year-old\u2019s death caused <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wctv.tv\/2025\/05\/29\/vigil-take-place-thursday-5-year-old-missy-mogle-child-allegedly-killed-by-mother-stepfather\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wctv.tv\/2025\/05\/29\/vigil-take-place-thursday-5-year-old-missy-mogle-child-allegedly-killed-by-mother-stepfather\/\">shock and outrage across the Capital City<\/a>, part of which was due to the fact that her stepdad was out on bond while awaiting sentencing for child sex crimes at the time of Missy\u2019s death. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Just a month after the young girl died, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wctv.tv\/2025\/08\/20\/state-seek-death-penalty-tallahassee-mother-charged-with-murdering-5-year-old-daughter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wctv.tv\/2025\/08\/20\/state-seek-death-penalty-tallahassee-mother-charged-with-murdering-5-year-old-daughter\/\">Florida Attorney James Uthmeier proposed the law<\/a> in Missy\u2019s name.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">In October, the Leon County Commission <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wctv.tv\/2025\/10\/30\/leon-county-deploys-lobbyists-argue-missys-law-gun-control\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wctv.tv\/2025\/10\/30\/leon-county-deploys-lobbyists-argue-missys-law-gun-control\/\">unanimously supported Missy\u2019s Law<\/a> before even seeing the text, saying the law is necessary to prevent judges from allowing convicted sex offenders to be out on bond once they\u2019re found guilty.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">There will likely be a Senate version of the bill, as well. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">To keep up with the latest news as it develops, follow WCTV on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/WCTV.tv\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/wctvnews\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Instagram<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@WCTVEyewitnessNews\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">YouTube<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/nextdoor.com\/page\/wctv\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/nextdoor.com\/page\/wctv\/\" target=\"_blank\">Nextdoor<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/nextdoor.com\/page\/wctv\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/nextdoor.com\/page\/wctv\/\" target=\"_blank\"> <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WCTV\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">X<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WCTV\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Twitter<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Have a news tip or see an error? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wtvy.com\/2025\/11\/18\/missys-law-filed-with-hopes-prohibit-release-sex-offenders-while-awaiting-sentencing\/mailto:news@wctv.tv?subject=Correction%20Needed\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Write to us here<\/a>.
