{"id":51572,"date":"2025-11-18T19:19:06","date_gmt":"2025-11-18T19:19:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/51572\/"},"modified":"2025-11-18T19:19:06","modified_gmt":"2025-11-18T19:19:06","slug":"broward-officials-respond-after-sheriff-gregory-tony-appeals-to-state-for-more-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/51572\/","title":{"rendered":"Broward officials respond after Sheriff Gregory Tony appeals to state for more funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. \u2014 Broward County is responding to Sheriff Gregory Tony\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheriff.org\/Documents\/BSO%20Budget%20Appeal%20Petition%20FINAL_11.7.25.pdf\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sheriff.org\/Documents\/BSO%20Budget%20Appeal%20Petition%20FINAL_11.7.25.pdf\">appeal<\/a> for more funding. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/espanol\/2025\/11\/18\/funcionarios-de-broward-responden-despues-de-que-el-sheriff-gregory-tony-solicitara-mas-fondos-al-estado\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/espanol\/2025\/11\/18\/funcionarios-de-broward-responden-despues-de-que-el-sheriff-gregory-tony-solicitara-mas-fondos-al-estado\/\">Leer en espa\u00f1ol<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Tony requested more than $73 million in funding after the sheriff\u2019s office did a salary study which he said showed Broward Sheriff\u2019s Office employees were underpaid and unable to stay competitive. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">But county officials pushed back, saying they will approve about $22 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Tony has since appealed that decision and it\u2019s now up to the state to decide if BSO should get more money.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe weren\u2019t asking for new cars. We weren\u2019t asking for new helicopters,\u201d Tony previously told commissioners. \u201cWe were asking to keep our people, keep the people that are allowing us to have the freedoms and liberties in this community and that was reduced down to 3%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThat means we\u2019re getting 22 million new dollars and that was enough to keep the lights on. Meanwhile, the county to the north of us, in Palm Beach, requested $114 million and (they) received $116 (million).
