Mississippi State tennis has five players competing in the NCAA Singles and Doubles championships in Orlando, Fla., this week.<\/p>\n
Three players from the men\u2019s team qualified for the singles championships: Petar Jovanovic, Benito Sanchez Martinez and Bryan Hernandez Cortes.<\/p>\n
Jovanovic and Sanchez Martinez also qualified as a doubles team, winning the ITA All-American Championship Doubles Title in Tulsa earlier this semester. It was the third All-American honor for the pair, who are looking to become the first Bulldogs to win at the NCAA Championships since Joc Simmons and Laurent Miquelard in 1994.<\/p>\n
The men\u2019s program has had a successful fall campaign, with Sanchez Martinez and Jovanovic both qualifying as finalists from the Southern Regionals and Hernandez Cortes wrapped up third place to book his spot in Orlando.<\/p>\n
All three Bulldogs won their Tuesday matchups to advance to the Round of 32.<\/p>\n
From the women\u2019s team, the doubles pair of Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz and Gianna Oboniye are traveling for the NCAA Doubles Championship in Orlando, becoming the youngest doubles team to ever represent MSU at the championships.<\/p>\n
The pair earned a spot in Orlando after a strong showing at the ITA Southern Sectional Championships in Baton Rouge, advancing to the semi-finals and winning a third-place playoff match against Vanderbilt\u2019s Bridget Stammel and Valeria Ray. It was the first appearance for the duo after Kempenaers-Pocz\u2019s arrival in Starkville, and they will begin their championships journey today against Leena Friedman and Orly Ogilvy from Yale in the first round.<\/p>\n
