A volunteer neighborhood group focused on public safety just threw its support behind\u00a0Monica Matteo-Salinas\u2019\u00a0bid for the Miami Beach Commission.<\/p>\n
SOBESafe<\/a> is endorsing Matteo-Salinas, a City Commission legislative aide now competing in a runoff for the panel\u2019s Group 1 seat.<\/p>\n \u201c(She has) a combination of relevant, insider experience on how things get done with a resident\u2019s desire to get them done better,\u201d the SOBESafe Board wrote on its website<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cSolutions to our challenges are complex and finding them requires a combination of knowing how the system works and being open to finding new paths where you know the old ones don\u2019t perform. Bottom line, we believe Ms. Matteo-Salinas gives us the best chances of success.\u201d<\/p>\n SOBESafe joins others backing Matteo-Salinas, including the Miami Beach Fraternal Order of Police<\/a>, Miami-Dade Mayor\u00a0Daniella Levine Cava, Miami Beach Commissioners Tanya Bhatt,\u00a0Laura Dominguez and Alex Fernandez, former Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber, and\u00a0LGBTQ groups<\/a>\u00a0SAVE Action PAC and Equality Florida Action PAC.<\/p>\n Matteo-Salinas said she\u2019s \u201cdeeply honored\u201d by SOBESafe\u2019s backing.<\/p>\n \u201cTheir work to make our neighborhoods safer and more connected is vital to the well-being of our city,\u201d she said. \u201cI share their commitment to a Miami Beach where every resident feels safe and secure. Together, we can make that vision real.\u201d<\/p>\n Matteo-Salinas has worked as a City Commission legislative aide under both Fernandez \u2014 who scored a record-setting win<\/a> in Miami Beach\u2019s General Election earlier this month \u2014 and former Commissioner Kristen Rosen Gonzalez.<\/p>\n
