MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 A deadly crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck claimed the life <\/a>of a Port St. Lucie man Tuesday afternoon at a rural intersection in Martin County. <\/p>\n

New details were released by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) on Wednesday, shedding light on what led to the crash.<\/p>\n

The collision occurred at around 12:42 p.m. on November 18, at the intersection of County Road 714 (SW Martin Highway) and SW Allapattah Road, a four-way stop-controlled crossing, according to the FHP report.<\/p>\n

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 2021 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide motorcycle, operated by a 67-year-old man from Port St. Lucie, was traveling southbound on SW Allapattah Road when it failed to stop at the posted stop sign and entered the intersection without yielding. At the same time, a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, driven by a 65-year-old man from Okeechobee, had come to a complete stop at the eastbound stop sign on County Road 714 and was proceeding through the intersection.<\/p>\n

The motorcycle struck the left side of the pickup truck, causing the truck to rotate counterclockwise and the motorcycle to overturn, according to the FHP. The motorcyclist was ejected and came to rest on the roadway. Martin County Fire Rescue responded and pronounced the rider deceased at 12:57 p.m. Next of kin has been notified. The pickup truck driver sustained non-incapacitating injuries and was transported to Cleveland Clinic Tradition Hospital for evaluation.<\/p>\n

Initial reports from the Martin County Sheriff\u2019s Office indicated that emergency crews, including deputies and traffic investigators, were on scene and urged drivers to avoid the area due to heavy congestion. Road closures included northbound Allapattah Road from Warfield Boulevard, eastbound State Road 714 at Fox Brown Road, and westbound traffic from I-95 onto SR 714, with southbound traffic redirected east. Authorities confirmed at least one fatality but did not release names at the time of the initial alert.<\/p>\n

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.<\/p>\n
