TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Tallahassee City Commission has a new number two. <\/p>\n
Wednesday afternoon, they voted for Commissioner Curtis Richardson as the new Mayor Pro Tem.<\/p>\n
While it\u2019s largely a ceremonial role, the Mayor Pro Tem acts as a sort of \u201cvice mayor,\u201d overseeing commission meetings and attending events when the mayor can\u2019t make it.<\/p>\n
The election sparked some fireworks with a heated back-and-forth between Commissioner Jack Porter and Mayor John Dailey. <\/p>\n

Porter has not served as the number two since she joined the commission, while the role has bounced between Richardson and current Mayor Pro Tem Dianne Williams-Cox in recent years.<\/p>\n
The vote today highlighted long-standing political divisions in the commission. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not comfortable with the relationship that\u2019s there, I\u2019m just explaining my position on the vote,\u201d Dailey said. <\/p>\n
\u201cWho works for who?\u201d Porter asked. \u201cWho works for who?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHe [the city manager] reports to the five of us but there\u2019s obviously a lack of confidence in him and you\u2019ve called for him to be fired,\u201d Dailey said.<\/p>\n
Ultimately, the commission voted 3-2 for Commissioner Curtis Richardson.<\/p>\n
