prompt changes on Silver Star Road in Orange County"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. \u2014\u00a0After a number of crashes, the Florida Department of Transportation is looking at making changes on Silver Star Road in Orange County.<\/p>\n<p>What You Need To Know<\/p>\n<p>FDOT is holding an open house on a project to add safety improvements to Silver Star Road<br \/>\n<br \/>The project is from Lake Stanley Road to Hiawassee Road<br \/>\n<br \/>FDOT says the stretch of Silver Star Road has seen 134 crashes between January 2020 and April 2025<br \/>\n<br \/>Improvements include upgraded intersections, improved crosswalks and median modifications<\/p>\n<p>An <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cflroads.com\/news\/article\/53036\/upcoming-open-house-for-silver-star-road-s-r-438-safety-improvements-for-november-19\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">open house<\/a> is happening from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Ocoee Lakeshore Center.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTraffic has definitely gotten worse,\u201d said Dr. Andrew Choset, who has owned the Silver Star Animal Hospital for the past decade.<\/p>\n<p>Speeding is a big problem, Choset says, which is a dangerous combination with another issue he sees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere&#8217;s always people that are crossing, jaywalking essentially,\u201d Choset said.<\/p>\n<p>According to FDOT, this stretch of Silver Star Road from Lake Stanley Road to Hiawassee Road has seen 134 crashes between January 2020 and April 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Two of those crashes were deadly, and another 20 resulted in serious injuries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUsually at the intersection with Apopka Vineland (Road) over there you&#8217;ll hear screeches, tire screeches and sometimes the actual impact,\u201d Choset said.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why FDOT is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cflroads.com\/project\/451372-1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">proposing changes<\/a> to Silver Star Road.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSafety is FDOT\u2019s highest priority, and this project is focused on reducing crashes and improving conditions for drivers and pedestrians along the corridor,\u201d said FDOT spokesperson Elizabeth Gifford. \u201cThe planned improvements include upgraded intersections, improved crosswalks, enhanced pedestrian signals, and median modifications designed to reduce conflicts and improve safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Choset says he would like another addition down the middle of road.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt would be nice if they put up the barriers like they&#8217;ve done on Pine Hills Road, which I think are probably very effective to stop that pedestrian traffic going across the way they do now,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Gifford says the FDOT plan doesn\u2019t include a pedestrian fence.<\/p>\n<p>Construction on the more than $4 million project is expected to begin in the fall of next
