Miami hit-and-run victim pleads for justice after months of painful recovery <\/p>\n
MIAMI \u2014 A woman critically injured in a hit-and-run in Miami\u2019s Little Havana is speaking out for the first time, urging the public to help identify the driver responsible.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy left hand, elbow\u2026 I\u2019ve had eight to nine surgeries,\u201d said Cristian Contreras, who was left with broken bones from her hand to her femur and significant dental injuries. \u201cIt had been very difficult days. I spent 17 days in the hospital and then came out and went into rehab.\u201d<\/p>\n
Contreras said she was completing an Uber Eats delivery around 5 a.m. when a driver slammed into her at Southwest Eighth Avenue and Seventh Street. <\/p>\n
\u201cThere was an angle behind me that stopped and called police,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
City of Miami police released surveillance video showing the 29-year-old on her Honda scooter stopped at a red light when a speeding SUV \u2014 possibly a Mazda \u2014 ran the light and struck her.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn that moment I didn\u2019t know what happened. I lost consciousness because of the impact,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Recovering at Jackson Memorial Hospital\u2019s Ryder Trauma Center, Contreras said she fears her case will fade without answers. <\/p>\n
\u201cI am asking for justice. I don\u2019t want this case to be forgotten.\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
